The idea

AI Spring Amsterdam is a reading group for people who want to think deeply about where AI comes from, where it's going, and how to make sure it goes well.

We believe that understanding both the foundations of intelligence and the safety challenges ahead requires sustained, careful reading — the kind that's hard to do alone. So we meet weekly to discuss one paper and one companion reading together.

The group is organized around four rotating themes that capture the breadth of what matters right now:

Foundation Landmark papers that shaped the field — the ideas we build on.
State of the Art Cutting-edge methods pushing the frontier of what's possible.
Safety Alignment, robustness, and the hard problems of responsible development.
Free Topic Cross-cutting ideas, philosophy, and emerging directions.

The companion readings provide context, counterarguments, and accessibility that make the discussions richer.

Format

We meet over coffee once a week, in person, somewhere in Amsterdam. Sessions last about 60–90 minutes. Each week a different member leads the discussion, preparing a 10-20 minutes presentation. Participants are advised to read the resources at least partially, and are expected to prepare a few questions for the discussion.

Suggestions for readings are always welcome in the WhatsApp group.
